This study sheds light on Iraqi EFL students' attitudes toward using Arabic by teacher and classmates in English classroom. The study was conducted in a public school in Iraq where Arabic is the mother tongue of both teachers and students,and English is taught as a foreign language.It explored the Iraqi English as a foreign language(EFL)students' attitudes toward using Arabic in the English classes and the perceived functions and /or the benefits and drawbacks of such use. The participants of the study were 100 Iraqi learners in the 12th grade in Alzahara High School in the province of Babylon. Data were collected through an attitudinal questionnaire and were analyzed by SPSS (Version 26).The results of the study revealed that most of Iraqi students held positive attitudes toward using Arabic in English classroom, since most of the participants had limited proficiency in English, they thought that teachers were obliged to use Arabic more in certain situations, in order to produce effective and successful lessons in L2classroom ,for this reason, L1(Arabic)seems to play a crucial role in English classroom from the learners’ viewpoints
