A widely used technique to anchor longitudinal FRP laminates is to continue them from the negative moment region of the beam to the face of column (in an ‘L’ shaped form) and then fixing them on the column with a wrapping. In this study, five RC specimens (‘+’ shaped (were constructed, in which the beam was strengthened in the adjacency of the column. One specimen considered as the control specimen, with the other four strengthened to achieve the research goals. Three specimens were strengthened separately different numbers of CFRP laminates on the tension side of the beams. Then in order to anchor the longitudinal CFRP laminates, they were continued to the column face and wrapped with GFRP sheets. In order to achieve a better anchorage of CFRP laminates, one specimen was modified at the beam-column junction point, where a bow-shaped junction was used. The experimental results demonstrate that in conventional strengthened specimens, as the number of CFRP layers increased, the ultimate load bearing-capacity increment was considerably lower than the expected values, while the proposed retrofit method was able to increase significantly the ultimate load-bearing capacity.
