Listening instruction in English as Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms has been inadequately paid attention and particularly is neglected when teachers run short of time to act out syllabi. Further, despite its importance as a receptive skill for interaction in oral communication, the process of teaching it in the classroom has largely been neglected. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to highlight the possible effect that a listening log has on learners’ motivation to become autonomous listener in EFL context. To serve the purpose of this study, thirty freshman TEFL majoring students from Mazandaran University participate in this study. The data were collected through students` listening log and telegram group in the period of four months during 9 sessions. During this period students needs to be prepared to become independent listeners. Meanwhile the preparation sessions starts from second session as a part of a process to train learners some meta-cognitive, top-down, note taking, and re-listening strategies. The data collected shows that how keeping a listening log motivates and encourages the learner to engage with, and reflect on their listening experiences as potential learning situations and how they can become a good listener in a real situation.
