چکیده Introduction: Cerebral Ischemia stroke, occurs when blood flow to a part of the brain is suddenly reduced or stopped. Post-stroke depression (PSD) in particular emerges as the most common psychiatric sequelae of stroke. Unfortunately, due to side effects of antidepressants, limits the use of these drugs. Cuminaldehyde is the main component of the essential oil of Cumin seeds, which has many pharmacological effects such as antioxidant activity, anti-inflammatory, anti-depressant effects. Therefore, in the present study, we investigate the effects of cuminaldehyde on the behavioral indicators of depression in the cerebral ischemia model of rats. Material and method: In this study, 36 male Wistar rats were placed in 3 groups of control, I/R and I/R+Cumin. Cuminaldehyde (20 mg/kg) were orally fed to rat for 14 days. Then, on the 15th day, all groups except the control group underwent I/R surgery. 24 hours after I/R induction, all rats were subjected to tail suspension (TST) and forced swimming test (FST) to investigate depression-like behaviors. Result: Our results showed that the vertical movement index in FST in the I/R group compared to the control group decreased significantly (p<0.0001), while the duration of immobility in the FST and TST compared to the control group has increased significantly (p<0.001). On the other hand, pretreatment with Cuminaldehyde significantly increased the vertical movement index in the forced swimming test (p<0.001) and decreased the duration of immobility in the FST and TST. Discussion: Overall, these findings suggest that pretreatment with Cuminaldehyde attenuate the I/R-induced depression-like behaviors.
