Tendon injuries constitute a formidable clinical challenge, primarily due to the tendency towards scar tissue formation, which significantly impairs functionality. The development of polymeric substitutes for tendon treatment has gained momentum, underscoring the critical role of these materials in augmenting tendon repair. This includes the exploration of both biological and synthetic polymeric substitutes, showcasing their promising potential. Furthermore, the utilization of hybrid composites and advanced therapeutic structures has been highlighted, emphasizing innovative processing techniques such as 3D printing and fiber-based methods that significantly contribute to the advancement of tendon regeneration. Through a thorough examination of recent advancements, this review seeks to illuminate the materials and techniques with the potential to fundamentally alter tendon repair strategies and enhance clinical outcomes.
