Title Mechanical, thermal, and morphological studies of adding POSS reinforcement to the PA6/NBR composites
Type JournalPaper
Keywords Mechanical property; morphological property; NBR; Octa-isobutyl POSS; Polyamide6; thermal property
Abstract In this study, a hybrid nanocomposite made of the polyamide 6 (PA6) and nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) with polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) was prepared and mechanical, thermal, and morphology of nanocomposite were tested. The nanocomposite specimens were prepared through the melt mixing method. Tensile and Charpy impact showed that adding the NBR increases the impact strength while decreasing the tensile strength. However, POSS nanoparticles can improve the weakness of adding NBR rubber to the PA6. Additionally, traditional analytical techniques, including differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were conducted.
