Title Glutathione S- transferase activity in mice treated with aluminum and extract Rose
Type Presentation
Keywords Rose damascena, Oxidative stress, Antioxidant, Glutathione S- transferase
Abstract Factors contributing to oxidative stress can affect the enzyme activities of antioxidant system. Aluminum is one of the factors which its toxicity is associated with some disruptions. On the other hand, plants may have protective role against oxidative stress due to the presence of antioxidant compounds. The aim of this study was measuring of glutathione S- transferase activity and the protective effect of Rose damascena. In this study, 36 rats were grouped as control, gavage, treatment with 20 mg/kg/day of aluminum, treatment with extract, treatment of aluminum with 500 and 1000 mg/kg of Rose extract. All groups received oral treatments by gavage. After the treatment period GST activity was measured. Data were analyzed by ANOVA using SPSS software. Statistical analysis using ANOVA showed significant increase in GST activity of groups treated with Rose extracts and aluminum along with Rose extract (p< 0.001). According to these results, it can be concluded that Rose damascena extract has a good ability to increase the GST activity. Therefore, further study warranted to investigate the role of Rose damascena on the activity of other antioxidant enzymes.
