چکیده ABSTRACT: The d evelopment of simple m ethods for the removal of h eavy metal cations f rom water samples is a relevant fi eld of research. For this purpose, p oly(aniline- co -m-phenylenediamine) (PAM pDA) was synthesized via radical oxidation polymerization of aniline with m-phenylenediamine. Then, superparamagnetic p oly(aniline- co -m-phenylenediamine)@Fe 3 O4 (PAM pDA@Fe3 O4 ) nanocomposite was f abricated f ro m PAMpDA, Fe(II), and Fe(III) salts via the in situ coprecipitation technique. The p roducts were characterized in t erms of chemical stru cture, morphology, thermal and m agnetic p roperties by Fourier transform infrared, X-ray diff raction, scanning electron microscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis, and vibrating sample m agnetometer, respectively. T he capability o f PAM pDA and its nanocomposite for the removal of P b(II), Cd(II), and Co(II) ions was investigated at various contact times, absorbent d osages, p H, and initial concentrations. The experimental d ata f or Co(II) cation with the highest sorption were analyzed by two isotherms and kinetic equations. In addition, the electrical conductivity of PAM pDA and PAM pDA@Fe3 O4 nanocomposite was examined after sorption of the heavy m etal ions. C2015 Wiley P eriodicals, Inc.
