Copper Schiff base complex immobilized on surface modified magnetite as a nanocatalyst for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol 4-Nitrophenol (4-NP) is dangerous to human and animals, which can damage the central nervous system, liver, kidney and other vital organs of humans and animals. Degradation of the compound of 4-NP to safe product is difficult because of its high stability and low solubility in water. The reduction of 4-NP to 4-aminophenol (4-AP) have great importance due to its large commercial applications in making of drugs, dye, polymers, herbicides and other materials of chemical [1]. Therefore, developing an efficient method to produce 4-AP is a major challenge in catalysis research. Various other researchers have also used copper based catalysts but, due to their homogenous nature [2], these approaches face serious problems in separation. Therefore, they are considered as the major contributors for waste generation in the chemical processes. Hence, there is a critical need to develop a simple, efficient, inexpensive and recoverable catalyst, with low or null toxicity in terms of green chemistry perspective. Herein, we report the fabrication, characterization and application of magnetically separable Fe3O4@SiO2-CPS-CuL nanocatalyst for the reduction of 4-NP to 4-AP at room temperature in aqueous medium. Fe3O4@SiO2-CPS-CuL provides an advanced, economical and environ-mentally sustainable nanocatalyst for the reduction of 4-NP to 4-AP.
