Creation of molecular functionality and diversity1 from common starting materials while mindful of economic and environmental considerations constitutes a great challenge in modern organic chemistry.2–4 Multi-component reactions (MCRs) are the best agents for reaching this ideal goal. MCRs are convergent reactions, in which three or more starting materials react to form a product, where all or most of the atoms contribute to the newly formed product. The major advantages of MCRs include lower cost, shorter reaction time, high atom-economy, energy saving, and the avoidance of time consuming and expensive purification processes
