In this paper, a new lifetime two parameter distribution, which is an extension of the Shanker distribution, is proposed. The shapes of its density and hazard function are discussed and an expression for the r-th moment of the new model is derived. The maximum likelihood and Bayesian estimation of the parameters are studied. As the Bayes estimates of the parameters under the squared error loss function seem to have no closed forms, a Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method is employed to approximate these estimates. A simulation study is conducted to assess the estimators. The paper ends with an application and several remarks.
