Abstract The ability to actively modify an airflow by a non-thermal DC discharge is investigated. An induced electrohydrodynamic (EHD) force on neutral flow was characterized based on momentum transfer from charged particles. The results show that the plasma actuator produces a net force that pushing particles into a jet downstream of the actuator. The effects of this force on the distribution of pressure and velocity in initially static air are parametrically studied.
