Abstract The genus Ruscus contains six species of flowering plants and belongs to the subfamily Asparagoideae in the Liliaceae [1]. Ruscus species are well known as medicinal plants because of their biological activities such as anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, antiedematous, and antielastase, and also as a vasoprotective [2–4]. Previous phytochemical studies on Ruscus species revealed the presence of nonvolatile compounds, including flavonoids, steroidal saponins, and glycosides [5–7]. Thus, in continuation of our research on the aromatic flora of Iran [8, 9], we herein report the essential oil composition of various parts of Ruscus hyrcanus Woronow for the first time.
