Title Study of catalase activity in rats treated with aluminum chloride and Rose damascena extract
Type Presentation
Keywords Catalase, Aluminum, Rose extracts
Abstract Most of the metals are required for body as are involved in many chemical reactions in the human body. Excessive amount of trace elements in the body causes toxicity. Aluminum is one of the elements that its excess consumption leads to neurological disorders and induces oxidative stress. Plants contain antioxidants play an important role in human health. The aim of this study was to investigate the protective effect of Rose damascena extract against oxidative stress induced by aluminum. For thispurpose, catalase activity was evaluated. In this study, 36 rats were grouped as control, gavage, treatment with aluminum, treatment with extract, dual treatment with aluminum and extract at concentrations 500 and 1000 mg/kg. After the treatment period, blood samples were taken and isolated plasma was used to measure the catalase activity. Data were analyzed by ANOVA using SPSS software. Catalase activity in the groups of control, gavage, treatment with aluminum, treatment with extract, treatment with aluminum and extract at concentrations 500 and 1000 mg/kg were 14.04±6.17, 15.79±5.41, 31.34±4.50, 14.20±3.38, 11.51±5.77 and 15.47±2.62 respectively. Statistical analysis showed a significant difference between the group treated with aluminum and other groups (p=0.014). Based on these results Rose damascene extract has protective role against injuries caused by aluminum.
