Abstract

Among several methods that have been reported for determination of hydrazine, electrochemical methods attracted attention due to its good selectivity, rapid response and cost efficiency [1]. Transition metal oxides have found huge importance because of their high catalytic performance and good stability in alkaline electrolyte [2]. Zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) as a subfamily of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have unique properties such as high specific surface area, porosity and flexibility [3]. In this research, ZIF-67 was synthesized according to a simple precipitation method in room temperature [4]. Then it was calcinated at 500 ºC at the heating rate of 2 ºC/min. Afterward, 5 μL of the prepared (2 mg/mL) solution was casted on the surface of a glassy carbon electrode and dried at room temperature. Characterization was done using FESEM, XRD, TEM and FT-IR. Also electrochemical characterization showed that oxidation peak was observed at about 0.5 V vs. Ag|AgCl|KCl at the surface of cobalt oxide modified GCE when it was exposed to 1mM hydrazine. The control experiments exhibit no peak at 0.5 V for cobalt oxide in absence of hydrazine, indicating the electrocatalytic activity of cobalt oxide for oxidation of hydrazine.
