In this paper, we consider the problem of expected sample size in a two stage pretest estimation for the scale parameter σ of a Rayleigh distribution. In the presence of prior information for σ, i.e. σ0, the probability of avoiding the second sample and the expected sample size are derived and plotted for different cases.
