Abstract

The feasibility to integrate micro/nanocrystalline materials in suitable porous supports is critical for the development of flow-based applications. Metal−organic frameworks (MOFs), also known as porous coordination polymers, with a significant potential for liquid phase separation. Recent interesting approaches comprise conversion of precursor metal oxides to MOFs. The metal oxides like zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) can also be attached to a variety of solid supports. These subclass of MOFs, typically prepared via coordination of metals with imidazolate linkers. Recently, Porous organic polymer monoliths (PMs) containing MOFs have been reported. These MOF-PMs are typically prepared using addition of preformed MOF crystals to the polymerization mixture [1]. A two-step approach was utilized to prepare highly porous monolithic polymer contains metal-organic framework as a sorbent for solid-phase extraction (SPE) technique. To this end, zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles has been copolymerized with vinyl monomers to prepare a macroporous monolith. The prepared monolith was converted to ZIF through in-situ approach [2, 3]. The obtained ZIF@ZnO hybrid monoliths were prepared in a short column format.
