The article is devoted to examining the communicative failures of Persian language students in the process of intercultural communication. It presents the typology of communicative failures of students, which includes etiquette, stereotypical, socio-cultural, ideological, encyclopedic, and culturological errors. The work points out the causes of the appearance of such errors. In the author’s opinion, they are closely connected with the specific features of teaching the Russian language in an Iran classroom, such as the underestimation of communicative approach and the lack of attention to the pragmatic and linguistic-cultural aspects of the language in the process of teaching the Russian language, which results in the low level of socio-cultural and communicative competence of students. In order to overcome the communicative failures of Persian language students in intercultural communication, the study gives methodological recommendations which aid the formation of intercultural communicative competence in students in the process of teaching Russian as a foreign language.
