Crystalline Hydroxyapatite(HA) thin films are ideal bioactive coatings that have been widely used as a coating on orthopedic metal implants. In this study, pure HA and Cu-doped HA coatings were fabricated on a steel substrate by using pulsed laser deposition. It is observed that HA doped with different concentrations of Cu ions enhanced the antibacterial properties of the Hydroxyapatite thin films. The bioactivity study showed the growth of apatite on the surface of a thin film in simulated body fluid solution (SBF) after 14 and 28 days of incubation. Characterization of the samples was performed by field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectroscopy. Finally, it is suggested that the irregular and crystalline structure of fabricated films lead to the extent of the surface and enhance the cells proliferation in medical uses and biomedical applications.
