Abstract

Electrochemical oxidation of catechol and 4-methylcatechol has been studied in the presence of aniline as a nucleophile in methanol solution using cyclic voltammetry and square wave voltammetry methods. The results indicate that he quinones derived from catechols participate in Michael addition reaction with aniline to form the corresponding catechol-aniline adducts according to an ECE mechanism.
