Abstract

Uniformity of flow distribution is an application subject in many engineering equipment such as in drug delivery and fuel processing reactors. With a uniform distribution of flow during their operation, better heat transfer, temperature control, and low pressure loss can be achieved. In this work, uniformity of flow distribution was studied in parallel micro-channels which were placed in different levels. Four shapes for distributor were studied with two working fluids, blood (as Newtonian fluid and power-law non-Newtonian fluid). Results show that there is different uniformity in each levels as in last level, the flow is less uniform. This trend found in other Reynolds numbers. However, with increasing Reynolds number, the flow is less uniform. Also, RTG distributor has better uniformity in each level than other shapes of distributor with Newtonian fluid, while, when power-law non-Newtonian fluid was used as working fluid, the better uniformity was achieved with TRG distributor.
