Abstract

Seaweed extract contains low-consumption and high-consumption nutrients and plant growth regulators that can improve plant yield. Due to its high nutritional value, quinoa can be used for human and animal feed. In the present study, 0.5 g of Ulva fasciata algae powder was extracted in 100 ml of distilled water in simple and boiled form and 0, 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100% dilutions were prepared. A volume of 5 ml of each dilution was added to petri dishes containing 15 quinoa seeds and after 7 days, root and shoot length, weight and seedling vigor index were measured. Concentrations of simple and boiled extracts resulted in a significant increase in shoot length compared to the control, so that higher concentrations of simple extracts and lower concentrations of boiled extracts showed better performance. Concentrations of simple and boiled extracts showed less root length and root to shoot length ratio than the control, so that with increasing concentration, these parameters decreased. Concentrations of simple extract had no effect on seedling weight but concentration of 20% of boiled extract showed a significant increase compared to the control. Vigor index decreased in treatment with simple extract, especially in higher concentrations, but in treatment with boiled extract, lower concentrations did not differ significantly from the control and higher concentrations reduced it. Due to the great importance of quinoa shoots, it seems that both simple and boiled extracts are effective in improving the growth of quinoa and the boiled extract has shown better effects.
