A critical set C of L is a subset of L such that C is uniquely completable and no subset of C has this property. There are some papers on this concept [6–9]. Let scs(n) be a function defined the smallest size of a critical set in any n × n Latin square. We study critical sets of 2n × 2n Latin squares, given that they are symmetric.
