Abstract

Scholars such as Franz Fanon, Edward Said, Gayatri Spivak, Homi K. Bhabha, and Robert J. C. Young have made significant contributions to the field of postcolonial studies, which has widespread recognition. In the meantime, Fanon was one of the pioneers who attempted to provide some type of definition of the colonized subject of the consciousness. He discussed a phenomenon that is known as «internalisation by imperialism,» which led to political, economic, and social backwardness and had an effect on the identities of individuals. However, the academic development of postcolonial theory can be traced back to the 1980s. At that time, an academic attitude against Western scientific discourse began with an investigation of the East and criticism of Orientalist discourse. This was the beginning of postcolonial theory. The authors Jhumpa Lahiri and Bharati Mukherjee are the focus of this book, which analyses their writings from a postcolonial perspective. Jhumpa Lahiri is a well-known American novelist who was born on July 1967 ,11. She writes short stories, novels, and essays in English and, more lately, in Italian as well. Her birthday is July 11. Novelist Jhumpa Lahiri, who was awarded the Pulitzer Prize, is known for her representation of immigrant and Indian-American life. However, the gloomy stories she writes also reflect universal themes such as longing, loneliness, and the difficulty of communicating with others. As her protagonists strive to live up to the expectations of their parents while also living authentic lives, they frequently find themselves in the midst of cultural tensions between the country in which they were born and the country in which they now reside. Born in 1940 and passing away in 2017, Bharati Mukherjee was an Indian American-Canadian author and retired professor at the University of California, Berkeley. She was the author of several different types of works, including novels, collections of short stories, and nonfiction books. In her works, Bharati Mukherjee explores ideas related to migration, transition, and change. This particular book, which is titled Writing through Trauma: The Decolonized Narratives of Jhumpa Lahiri and Bharati Mukherjee , is broken up into a total of six chapters. The authors have separately discussed the important concepts that are covered in each chapter so that the reader can have a better understanding of the topic when viewed through the lens of literature. The reader will have a deeper understanding of postcolonialism and the trauma associated with decolonization as a result of this, in particular as it is shown in the works of these novelists. The authors of the book have devoted the preface to discussing post-colonialism, decolonized trauma, and the lives of Jhumpa Lahiri and Bharati Mukherjee. In the second chapter of this book, the novel Loveland discusses a variety of post-literature-related subjects and problems. Some of these topics include decolonized trauma, narrative, and identity. The novel Namesake written by Champa Lahiri serves as a jumping off point for an examination of the concepts of identification and nostalgia in the third chapter. The concepts of culture, post-colonialism, and Eastern philosophy are dissected in depth in the fourth chapter of the book Interpreter of Maladies. The books The Tree Bride and Miss New India are dissected in terms of hybridity, the uncanny, and identity in the fifth and sixth chapters, respectively. Not only does this book, which was written for students and professors in the fields of English language and literature as well as English translation, inspire students to read books written in the English language, but it also gives students the opportunity to become familiar with the technical aspects of literary terms and criticism in the works of Jhumpa Lahiri and Bharati Mukherjee. This book was written for students and professors in the fields of English language and literature as well as English translation. It also has the potential to act as a source of motivation for scholars working in other areas of literary study. This book is dedicated to distinguished teachers of the English language, students studying English in universities, and other academics with an interest in literary theory and criticism. It should come as no surprise that there are errors in this text. If readers could help the authors improve the quality of the book by providing meaningful feedback and recommendations, the authors would be extremely appreciative of this assistance. We would like to express our gratitude to all of our friends and acquaintances who helped us in the process of authoring this book.
