The aim of this study was to investigate the bactericidal effect of atmospheric pressure cold plasma on E. coli compared with arteriogram disk diffusion method. For this purpose 2×109 colonies of E. coli spread on the Luria Bertani (LB) solid medium. Then atmospheric plasma (from the tube using two millimeter) was compared with the several antibiotics (gentamicin, cefixime, tetracycline, amoxicillin and ampicillin) effects. Our data showed that the transported plasma after 3, 9 and 12 minutes inhibits the growth of E. coli in 981.5, 1226.03 and 1362.41 mm2 respectively. Amount of bactericidal antibiotics equal to 346.18, 778.91, 329.89, 176.62 and 254.34 mm2 respectively. Our findings suggest that the transported plasma can be considered as a useful approach for sterilization of equipment which is sensitive against the traditional sterilization method such as heating in dry and humid environments, radiation, biocides chemicals and etc.
