چکیده

Introduction: Excessive foot pronation and frontal and horizontal knee moments are related to knee injuries. Motion control shoes aim to reduce excessive rear foot motion and leading to internal rotation of the lower limb through altering deformation rates between the medial and lateral sides of the shoe. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of motion control shoes on the three dimensional lower limb joint moments during running in healthy females. Methodology:14 healthy females (20–25 years) performed 5 running trials at speed of3 ±0.2 m/s over a force platform during each shoe condition. Two shoes were tested, the Nike free 5 shoe(control), and the Asics GEL-Kayano 21(motion control). Video and force-plate data were collected simultaneously to calculate joint moments and the calculation was done by inverse dynamic equations. Results: A motion control shoe significantly reduced peak ankle evertor moment (p = 0.031). Furthermore, motion control shoe significantly increase dadductor knee joint moments(p=0.033). Nobetween shoes differences in three-dimensional hip moments were observed. Discussion:The results of this study indicated that a motion control shoe can control the subtalar joint pronation and the abduction of the knee by decreasing the amount of evertor moment and increasing the knee adductor moment. The effectiveness of these shoes in frontal plane due to controlling the rearfoot movement in this plane is high. These results indicate that the motion control shoes as an efficient and nonsurgical treatment must be considered.
