Abstract

2,3-Dihydroquinazolinone derivatives have drawn much attention due to their broad range of pharmacological activities. These compounds are known to be antitumur agents, diuretics, plant-growth regulators, herbicidal agents, anticonvulsants, and anticancer agents [1]. In recent years, modified magnetic nanoparticles have received a lot of attention as support for preparation of metal nanoparticles [2]. In this study, amino acids, which are inexpensive and nontoxic materials, were used as good candidates for incorporation of Fe3O4. In continuation of our ongoing research toward the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds by greener and environmentally benign approaches [3,4], we herein report microwaves assisted synthesis of dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-one derivatives by the condensation of isatoic anhydride, amines, and aldehydes in the presence of Fe3O4/arginine nanocomposite under microwave irradiation (Scheme 1). The synthesized compounds were screened for anti-bacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Staphylococcus aureus. The screening results indicate that some of the tested compounds exhibit significant antibacterial activities when compared with the reference drugs.
