Abstract

Biochemical indices which can be measured in a biological system are related to exposure to a xenobiotics compound. In the present study, some serum biochemical parameters of Acanthopagrus latus through different levels of cadmium pollution were measured in order to determine the biochemical response of yellowfin sea bream. The quantitative determination of serum glucose was carried out using commercially available diagnostic Experimental Protocol kits by the glucose oxidase method. Serum total protein levels were determined with bovine serum albumin serving as standard. Recorded data for the activity of total protein showed depletion in all treatments. Glucose was significantly increased compared to control treatment. Results of the research showed that cadmium has a direct correlation with fish serum biochemical abnormalities; also, it indicated that various environmental conditions of marine ecosystems may cause several changes in the serum biochemical parameters of the studied fish.
